Xcode PackageAfter hearing a few things about it, I downloaded and installed Xcode. Xcode is more or less the Microsoft Visual Studio for Apple. You can develop applications, widgets, and much more with the Xcode package.

I am no programmer, so I was not sure if I could work with it. After finally finding it on the hard drive, I opened up Xcode. I had no idea what to do or where to start. So I closed it again quickly.

A few days later I saw on Twitter that Jo Oak made a new Mac Tips & Tricks screen cast. I love his shows, very informative. In Mac Tips & Tricks #55 he talks about making your own Dashboard widgets. He did this using Dashcode, which is part of the Xcode package.

It looked fairly simple, and I got the idea to make a Dashboard widget that shows the I do Mac RSS feed. So after some thinking, fidgeting, cussing, redoing… it is here. The first ever “program” I made, and I am very proud of it. The I do Mac RSS Dashboard widget. I even made a DMG file for easy installation, using DMG Canvas.

Uber Mac ProI am going to do a shameless traffic/member/promotion raffle.

Perhaps you already been to the I do Mac Forums (http://forums.idomac.com/). It needs members, and posts.

I was thinking about giving away a prize. Once the forum hits 100 members. One of those members (perhaps the one that is most active with posting) will be selected at random, and win a prize.

Twitter is of course a great way to get visitors, and hopefully they will become members of the I do Mac Forums. Feel free to tweet and re-tweet. But please try to get serious members to the I do Mac Forums, that will really use the I do Mac Forums.

You are probably wondering what that prize will be. Well… that is a good question. So far I have no idea, so I need your help. What would you like? What will most people like? Help me pick a great application, or something else!

Please keep the cost in mind. A nice, not to expensive prize :) . Not a Mac Pro costing about 20,000 US dollars (see image).

So visit the I do Mac Forums, sign up and start posting. Tweet and re-tweet to get other people here. Let me know what a good prize would be by commenting this post, or emailing me.

Thank you.

Welcome to I do Mac

Welcome to I do Mac

I do Mac is my, Egon, personal weblog (blog). I do Mac is mainly about my MacBook (my first Mac ever!) I purchased the MacBook in the beginning of 2009.

Here on I do Mac I regularly post snippets about my experiences, findings and problems with my Mac.

Why I do Mac

I have used PC’s with Windows for many years, and still do. Next to that I played with various Linux releases, FreeBSD and even worked with SCO UNIX.

I have always wanted a Mac, for as long as I can remember. Why? I have no idea really. It took some time, but now I finally got a MacBook. And the PC will probably be replaced by an iMac, once the PC dies beyond repair.

All I expected and hoped about Macs was true. That is why I do Mac.

Happy reading of I do Mac. If you have questions, remarks or ideas feel free to contact me, or post a message in the I do Mac forums.

There is also an I do Mac (RSS) Feed available.
